I recently had the opportunity to design and launch a new website for Threshold Renovations, a local business based in Winona. Their team specializes in high-quality renovation services—from custom carpentry to flooring, drywall, and specialty structures—and they wanted a website that would showcase their craftsmanship while also being modern, fast, and easy to navigate.

From the start, my goal was to create something clean and professional that reflects the reliability of their work. I opted for a lightweight build that emphasizes speed and SEO, ensuring their services are easy to find for anyone searching in the Winona area.

Instead of relying on a cookie-cutter template service, we worked closely together to design a site that feels personal and authentic. Every section—from the service overviews to the request-a-bid form—was tailored to highlight Threshold Renovations’ strengths and make it easy for potential clients to take the next step.

In terms of technology used, I decided to use Astro for this site. I love using Astro, and this site does not have much interactivity. It definitely needed a more content-based solution. For this, Astro worked well for my purposes.

For hosting, I chose the free tier of Google’s Firebase. Because of this, I not only cut costs down to just ownership of a domain name, but it’s no secret that Firebase has some of the fastest web hosting available – especially for no cost.

We started by creating the initial branding that every company needs – a logo. Sam’s wife, Olivia Kendall, actually drew out the logo in Procreate as they didn’t have solidified branding yet. It came out very well. Then we established what services they should offer based on the company’s portfolio of photographs and corresponding work. We discussed each page, working very carefully until we finished out the site.

The result of this process accumulated in about four days.

Here’s what Sam, the owner of Threshold Renovations, had to say about the process:

“I highly recommend Zack for any web design needs. I came to him with only a rough idea, and he transformed it into a stunning finished product. Instead of relying on a template service like Squarespace, Zack provides the care, creativity, and personalization that only a dedicated professional can deliver. The result is a website that feels truly my own.”Sam, Threshold Renovations

I’m proud of how the site turned out, and I think it captures both the professionalism and personal touch that define Threshold Renovations. You can check out the live site here: thresholdrenovations.com
